Summertime is flying by, but there is still plenty of time to get out in the community and take advantage of all the season has to offer. With the kids out of school and schedules open wide, it can be hard to find activities that will keep children physically and mentally engaged until school year once again commences. The Trenton Youth Soccer League is stepping up to fill the void, offering free summer soccer programs all throughout the community. After all, why just have summer goals when you could score them instead?
If you’re looking for a fun and free way to keep the child in your life healthy, happy, and thriving this summer, the Trenton Youth Soccer League is a wonderful opportunity to get outside, get active, and connect with other kids from all throughout the Trenton community. Boys and girls ages 7-16 are eligible to participate. The League hosts weekly sessions all throughout the community, including:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Park Field: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 10:30am, located at 345 Brunswick Ave, Trenton, NJ 08618
- George Page Park: Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00am to 10:30am, located at Lawrence St. and N. Olden Ave., Trenton, NJ 08638
- Unity Park: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm, located at Chestnut Ave. and Hamilton Ave, Trenton, NJ 08609
Students are eligible to participate in one or more locations. If you are interested in participating, registration forms will be available on site. Parents and guardians, please do be aware that that a registration form must be signed at each location prior to participation. All your child will need to bring with them is sneakers, water, and a great attitude!
Per Jennifer Hernandez, TYSL coach and Trenton High student, “Being a part of this amazing program I’ve learned the importance of ensuring that the kids in our community are getting outside, having fun, and trying something new. In a short time, I got to know the kids really well, and fell in love with the game of soccer again. I realized how much these kids needed access to programs like this and how important the connection this sport brings is, especially in our community where people are often focused on just getting through their daily lives. The excitement of the kids when they learn something new or master a new skill means everything and makes me love being there as a coach.”
The Trenton Youth Soccer League is presented by Play Soccer Nonprofit International (PSNI), with support from the City of Trenton. PSNI oversees independent soccer leagues that help enrich the lives of youth all over the globe. Their programming places a special emphasis on health and social skills, all the while refining their soccer-playing abilities along the way. All children regardless of skill level are welcome to make friends, try their hand at a new activity, and take to the field with a dynamic group of like-minded youth. Instead of another summer spent on a screen, the summer soccer programs offer a unique opportunity to enjoy an active, memorable season.
