With youthful enthusiasm and a vibrant imagination to match, you’d be hard-pressed to find a mind more creative than that of a child. The creativity that children display from the earliest days of childhood is something to be fostered, celebrated, and nourished all throughout their lives. Through arts, crafts, and other creative outlets, children are empowered to bring their thoughts, feelings, and experiences to life in a fun and tangible way. To help foster a love of the arts in the next generation of Trentonians, Artworks Trenton is opening its doors to our community’s youngest residents for this year’s upcoming Youth Art Making Day.

On May 20th, Artworks Trenton will be hosting Youth Art Making Day. This event invites young artists from all over the community to come together, get creative, and enjoy a host of fun-filled activities along the way. The event will be held from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Artworks Trenton headquarters, located at 19 Everett Alley, Trenton, NJ 08611. Festivities will also be happening up the road at the Trenton Boys and Girls Club, located at 212 Centre St, Trenton, NJ. Youth Art Making Day is completely free and open to the public, so all are welcome to be a part of the artistic excitement.

At the Artworks portion of the day’s events, children and their families will have access to a wide variety of fun activities including a doodle gallery, face-painting with Henrietta Baldwin, and a printmaking demonstration with Amanda Chesney. Not only will children have the opportunity to make some fantastic creations of their own, but they will have the chance to see firsthand and interact with professional artists. An afternoon of inspiration and excitement awakes, and you won’t want to miss it!

Meanwhile, over at the Boys and Girls Club of Trenton, kiddos can have a part in creating a mural masterpiece. Guests will be welcome to add their own creative flare to a collective artwork which will then be on display for visitors of the Boys and Girls Club to enjoy. Although the mural is temporary, the memories are forever!

Creativity in childhood is not just a source of fun, but a meaningful catalyst for learning and development over the course of a child’s life. Researchers have found that exposure to the arts as a young child can reap an abundance of benefits, including increased problem-solving capacities, creative thinking, and can even increase things like thoughtfulness and empathy. The arts are also tremendously beneficial in developing motor skills, allows children to process the world around them, and keeps kids engaged with the world around them. The arts are an avenue that changes lives every day, and events like these help to keep our community’s young people learning and creating each and every day.

This event is brought to you by Artworks Trenton, an organization seeking to foster creativity and a love of the arts to every generation of Trentonians. Through exhibits with professional artists, community education events, and an abundance of other opportunities to interact with the arts, Artworks plays an integral role in keeping the fine arts accessible in the Trenton community.
