When you were a child, perhaps you have fond memories of attending or being a part of a puppet show. With just a bit of creativity, humor, and imagination, these hand-held creations can instantly be transformed into hours of entertainment. Whether you were the one behind the puppet or just sat back and enjoyed the show, there’s no doubt that these fond memories were a highlight of many of our childhoods. It’s time to pass the fun on to the next generation of Trentonians!
On Saturday, October 28th, you and your family are invited to a day full of puppet-making fun. The fun will begin at 11 a.m. at the Trenton City Museum at 299 Parkside Avenue, Trenton, NJ 08606. This two-part event will allow youth to create their puppet show, from the puppets to the performance and every detail. The festivities are easy to attend, and all are welcome to participate in the fun. If you plan on attending, however, please be aware that advanced registration will be required. To register, please email your information to kjlartsanctuary@gmail.com. In your email, please be sure to include the number of planned participants, as well as the age of each participating child. Space is limited, so be sure to enroll as soon as possible!
On the first day of this two-part workshop, attendees can create their very own puppets and backgrounds. But once the tools are made, the fun doesn’t stop there! Kiddos can take these goodies home, where the creativity will continue. While at home, participating guests will be tasked with practicing their parts for the next session’s puppet show. Upon your return for part two of the festivities, your child can perform a puppet show alongside their peers. KJL Art Sanctuary has constructed a booth for you to record the performance so that you and your family can hold onto these memories for years to come.
This event is offered courtesy of KJL Art Sanctuary, an organization devoted to providing free arts programming to youth in the community.
