Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County (BGC Mercer) and Amazon, through Newark-based Audible, recently announced a new donation that establishes Amazon as a “Leader for Hope” partner of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County. The gift will further the Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission to impact the lives of local youths.
During these unprecedented times, more families and kids in the Trenton-area are finding themselves in greater need.
Jillian Irvin, Sr. Manager of Public Policy at Amazon, stated, “The Boys & Girls Clubs’ efforts to serve Mercer County youth is always crucial, but their work has become invaluable as Trenton-area families struggle with the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Amazon is happy to support the Boys & Girls Clubs as they positively impact the young people in Mercer County.”
Each day, hundreds of children attend on the of the two Clubhouses offered by BGC Mercer and log into their virtual school day, so their parents can go to work. Club staff support students with their virtual schooling and provide meals, afternoon enrichment activities, tutoring and homework help.
David Anderson, the CEO BGC Mercer, said “Amazon’s support at this time enables us to help more parents, particularly essential workers. We provide for their children a safe, supportive and nurturing place to go and learn each day.”
He continued, “Given the alternatives of youth being isolated at home and the stress families are currently experiencing from many directions, this gift is vital and inspirational in changing lives.”
With help from Amazon, the club looks forward to a bright and more secure future of helping Mercer County youth reach their full potential as productive, caring individuals.
