On Saturday, March 9th, you and your little ones are invited to the New Jersey State Museum for March’s installment of Small Explorers, the NJSM’s playgroup designed with little learners in mind. The theme of this month’s engaging morning of fun is “A Creative Exploration for Little Builders”, which will inspire your child to work with their hands and get creative in building a creation of their own. Parents can choose from a number of slots, including 9:45 AM, 11:00 AM, or 12:15 PM sign-up times. The festivities will begin in the Discovery Den at the New Jersey State Museum Campus, located at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. If you’re interested in attending, please complete the registration form, linked here: Register – NJSM.  Space is limited and slots fill up quickly, so be certain to secure your spot as soon as you can!

This month’s session will focus on the brilliance of building and how societies throughout civilization have constructed creations to build up the world around them. The morning will kick off with a reading of “Baby Builders” by Elissa Haden Guest, illustrated by Hiroe Nakata. From the homes built by the Lenape, New Jersey’s First People, to the beavers in the creek building their dams, Afterwards, inspired by this tactical tale, kiddos will have the chance to dive into some hands-on fun as they take sticks and turn them into a magical creation of their own. This building-centric day will help to build up your child’s curiosity, motor skills, and making abilities, combining fun and functional education for the whole family.

This event is part of the New Jersey State Museum’s Small Explorers program. This monthly initiative invites little ones ages 5 and under, as well as their guardians and siblings, to enjoy a hands-on morning of fun at the NJSM. This program is designed to give big ideas to the littlest learners, making the museum’s many exhibits more accessible and engaging to this young audience. From stellar story times to hands-on crafts, museum walkthroughs, and more, there’s certain to be a memorable activity for every member of the family. The Small Explorers program is also a wonderful way for parents in the Trenton region to come together, connect, and share resources, tips, and tricks with other members of the community.
