In efforts to keep the community informed, Trenton Public Schools (TPS), Capital Health and Trenton Health Team (THT) have partnered together to create the #MaskUpTrenton video contest.

The contest, which ran from August 1 through September 25, encouraged students of Trenton to shoot a 30-60 second long video promoting COVID-19 safety rules such as washing hands, social distancing and mask wearing. Students were to submit their homemade videos online for a chance of winning a gift card courtesy of Capital Health.

“The videos are fun, but also share serious messages,” said Micah Freeman, TPS Supervisor of Nurses. “Students and teachers are doing a great job with remote learning, but if we are going to get back in the classroom together, we need to follow health safety guidelines and reduce the spread of COVID-19.”

To help promote the contest, Trenton Central High School seniors and TikTok celebrities the SplashTwinz, Treona and Trechelle created their own videos. The SplashTwinz video received over 41,800 likes on TikTok.

“We know students listen to their friends,” said THT Executive Director Gregory Paulson. ”We appreciate their help sharing these important health messages.”

As of right now, the creators of the #MaskUpContest have decided to award all participants for their submissions with a gift card.

“The submissions were all wonderful and creative,” said Capital Health Community Health Educator Megan Yuan. “We thank the Trenton students for their help in spreading the message of safety and wellness.”
