You may have heard the phrase, “It’s not what you know; it’s who you know.” While this isn’t accurate 100% of the time, a strong network of allies and associates can quickly become one of the most vital assets in your toolkit. With a strong network behind you, these relationships can be utilized to make connections, attain career growth, and open the door to many opportunities. Whether you’ve been in the workforce for years or are just starting your career, networking can be a tricky skill to master. Thankfully, the New Jersey State Library has you covered with their upcoming webinar, “Simple Steps to Maximize Networking Opportunities.”

On Wednesday, September 28th, you’re invited to join the NJSL for an afternoon of networking knowledge. This virtual event will kick off at noon on Zoom. As always, this seminar is entirely free to attend. If you are interested in joining, advanced registration on Zoom is required. You can sign up and read more about the upcoming talk by registering here: Register – NJSL. By the end of the afternoon, guests will leave equipped with several actionable strategies that can help transform you from a networking novice to a social butterfly.

The numbers don’t lie: up to 85% of jobs are filled thanks to networking connections. Making a good first impression is a crucial way to stand out among the competition, build lasting relationships, and place yourself at the front of your mind when being considered for opportunities. These days, there are several networking avenues, including in-person and on virtual platforms like LinkedIn. With options now more in demand than ever, it’s integral to have a strategy to get to where you want to go.

Leading the afternoon’s conversation is Paul Cecala, a certified Global Career Development Facilitator, work search author, and founder of Cecala Career Consultants. Since 1999, he has assisted over 3000 job seekers ranging from C-Suite executives to college students. Paul specializes in creating job search project plans and is recognized for his empathetic listening skills. Paul currently facilitates job seeker networking groups for four different organizations. He has helmed two colleges’ adult professional education programs and a NJ Dept. of Labor One-Stop Career Center. Paul has his BS in Psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology.
