We all will always remember the resolute courageousness and character of civil rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. While many honor his legacy each third Monday in January (January 21st, 2019) as a “day off” for this federal holiday, Mercer County Community College is hoping you will choose to honor his legacy as a “day on” and a day of community service.

All are invited and encouraged to join MCCC staff, students, and alumni at their James Kerney Campus (102 N. Broad St.) this January 21st as they host a variety of community service activities to honor the legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

The event starts with registration and welcomes from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. After registration individuals can join MCCC in any of the following service activities from 9:00am – 12:15pm.

  • Bag lunches – The Rescue Mission
  • Utensil Wrap Up – TASK
  • Book Fair – Trenton Hall (MCCC’s Youth Corps) First Book
  • Community Clean Up – City of Trenton
  • Class Room Painting – Children’s Home Society
  • Sewing for Service – MCCC’s Fashion/ Apparel Design Program

The Book Fair is being sponsored by First Book in conjunction with MCCC’s Youth Corps and offers the opportunity for Trentonians of all ages to come and select books for free.

This is also a great opportunity to learn about some of the organizations doing awesome work in Trenton along with learning about how MCCC is making sure Trenton’s youth are moving upward and bound for college through their Youth Corps, Upward Bound, and many other programs.

The service activities will be followed by lunch from 12:30 – 1:15 p.m. After lunch, attendees are invited to stay for a series of performers and speakers celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

This day of service is being sponsored by A Better Way, First Book, House of Blessings Church of God, New Jersey Youth Corps, The Children’s Home Society, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Trio Upward Bound, and Mercer County Community College.
