On Thursday, August 6th, the Smith Family Foundation hosted its annual college care package event, supplying high school graduates with laptops and other essentials as they enter into their first year of college.

To support the youth in Trenton, The Smith Family Foundation established its center project #IAMTHECHANGE with a primary focus on programming that directly impacts college and career readiness for Trentonians. The College Care Package event prepared more than 300 care packages ready for distribution to any high school graduate or college student furthering their collegiate aspirations.

“Our college care package giveaway is a small token to show we care, we are here, and hold your hearts in our hands. It’s important to us that students have all the essentials and resources to achieve academic excellence,” says Sharese York, Director of #IAMTHECHANGE, “We believe in helping students strive with an ambition that makes purpose great and their achievement greater.”

More than 18 organizations came together and chipped in to make the event possible and provide Trentonians with essential items for school.

Just recently the Smith Family Foundation awarded recent graduates of Trenton Central High School (TCHS) with book awards and scholarships with one winning the Foundation’s and TCHS’ $40,000 Legacy Scholarship toward college tuition and finances.

With a mission to empower the community, cultivate leaders, and transform lives, the Smith Family Foundation’s Annual College Care Package event is a prime example of what it means to do just that.
