On Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 8:30 a.m., a fun and interactive Wellness Learning Walk will take place at Trenton Central High School for students, families and the entire community to participate in. The event is being held by Trenton Public Schools, the District Wellness Council, the Division of Health Services, along with Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson and health community partners.

This group, which is committed to promoting healthier schools by encouraging healthy eating and physical activity, meets every month to discuss ways to evaluate, review, support and update the school district’s wellness policy while leading and supporting health and wellness activities in schools.

The Walk aims to provide learning about the updated version of the Wellness Policy, connect the school, community and local organizations to promote a healthy school district, and promote healthy lifestyles.

This will be the first time the school is hosting an event like this. In collaboration with the District Wellness Council, all school community members have the opportunity to take part in the Trenton Public Schools Wellness Initiative, which encourages all community members to educate, advocate, and connect the school community to the District’s wellness policy.

Launching at Trenton Central High School (on the high school soccer field located off of Greenwood Avenue), the Wellness Learning Walk will begin with a sign up and warm-up on October 5th at 8:30 a.m.

According to Verlina Reynolds-Jackson, “I often post my regular exercise walk achievements on social media. Walking is good for your heart, mental health, and soul. If my workouts have inspired you, please come to the Wellness Walk and bring a friend. Be the spark that lights the torch for your friend or neighbor.”

Trenton Public Schools District Wellness Council is a cross sector of community health organizations including TPS staff. The Wellness Councils recommends reviews and advises on the implementation of the district’s policy that addresses student health and wellness.
