Our families are the center of our lives – when our families are happy and healthy, the rest of our life can flow from that strong foundation. Trenton Public Schools recently announced the launch of their Strengthening Families seminars, which will empower parents to connect with their little ones more. The workshops are designed for parents of 6-11-year-old students. Sessions will be held every Tuesday starting January 10th. The sessions will conclude on April 11th, 2023. Childcare will be provided to attendees. The sessions are held from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at 108 N. Clinton Ave., Trenton, NJ.

Family cohesion is critical for both you and your child. With a harmonious home, parents can have greater peace of mind. At the same time, children can feel better supported and understood as the greatest advocates for their children. Parents and guardians must understand how to connect with their families effectively. Some important topics will include community support, health, and wellness, parents as leaders, school support, home safety, and navigating community resources. Through education and connection to meaningful help, families can take the first steps to transform their lives better.

The seminars are part of Trenton Public School’s Parent Connect program. The comprehensive schedule of educational opportunities is designed to encourage parents and guardians to foster school success and forge stronger home-school partnerships. Through the Parent Connect series, parents and guardians are empowered to understand better their child’s educational, social, and emotional needs. After the series, the program hopes to achieve the following goals:

  • Educate parents and guardians regarding how to access school and community resources, and hone the skills necessary to support their children effectively.
  • Engage parents and guardians to become full-time partners in their child’s education
  • Empower parents to engage in lifelong learning for both themselves and their children
  • Encourage parents and guardians to sustain their child’s growth and well-being.

If you have a child in the Trenton Public School system, various resources are available to help you and your family thrive. Some other critical resources families can access include homelessness assistance, mental health resources, social services navigation, and more. In addition, the Mission of TPS’s Office of Student Services, Family, and Community Engagement seeks to establish strong relationships with parents and guardians, assuring that families can play an active role in their child’s education. By better supporting students, children can develop life skills and gain a higher level of socio-emotional, academic, and overall achievement.
